For owners who care about the next chapter of their small business in Utah

Your business was built by taking your craft seriously and operating with integrity. You're looking to retire or exit, but you care about your customers, employees, and partners.

Next Chapter Search is looking to acquire and run a business with a long-term view and dedication to preserving your legacy.

About

Next Chapter Search is Emory Griffith

My name is Emory and I started Next Chapter Search to acquire a business in the greater Salt Lake City area with a focus on long-term, profitable growth. I know that small business success is hard-earned, and selling your business is a big decision. If you care about finding the right person to lead the next chapter of your business, I'd love to talk.

Emory and MeaghanGriffith

Emory and his wife Meaghan live in Salt Lake City

A local operator with real experience

Small business leadership

I spent the past few years running an electrical contractor in Salt Lake City. I know what it takes to lead a team, build a strong culture, delight customers, and manage cashflow. As we get to know each other, I'll introduce you to the owners of that business so you can hear it directly from them.

Committed to preserving your legacy

Selling a business is more than a transaction- it's handing over something you've built with years of hard work, relationships, and care. I'll be a steward of what you've built and grow the right way — by respecting your team and culture and maintaining the quality your customers expect.

I'm an operator, not a private equity group

My wife and I live in Utah and are investing our personal capital. I'm not a private equity group that owns a dozen other businesses, and I'm not interested in flipping or squeezing every penny out of it for short-term profits. This will be my full-time job and largest asset, and I will treat it with the care it deserves.

We'll structure a flexible and fair deal

Whether you're looking for a quick transition or want to stay involved for a while, I'm open to finding a structure that fits your goals. I plan to purchase the business at a fair market multiple, and I'll work with you to craft terms that fit your personal and financial goals.

What I'm looking for

Enduring service businesses with a profitable track record.
  • Home or business services - i.e. plumbing, HVAC, electrical, sewer, septic, fencing, tree service, pool maintenance, damage restoration, property maintenance, etc.
  • Located within an hour of Salt Lake City
  • Generating $350k-$1.5M in annual profits ("Seller's Discretionary Earnings")
  • Established technical team in place
  • No single customer larger than 20% share
  • History of profitable growth

Approach

1. Initial Meeting

This is a casual conversation to get to know each other. I'll share a bit about my background, and you can tell me about your business, your goals, and what's important to you in a sale.

2. Business Review

If there's mutual interest, I'll take a deeper look at your business — things like financials, operations, and key challenges — to understand how I can step in and carry it forward.

3. Letter of Intent (LOI)

Once we agree on the big picture — price, terms, and transition — I'll put that into a formal LOI. This document outlines the key terms and sets us up for due diligence.

4. Due Diligence

This is where I roll up my sleeves and dig into the details — confirming the numbers, understanding processes, and making sure there are no surprises. My goal is to move through this efficiently and respectfully, without disrupting your day-to-day business.

5. Transition

Once the deal closes, we'll work together to make sure the handoff goes smoothly. There will be some overlap where I'm learning the day-to-day operations from you, but we'll agree to a transition timeline that works for both of us.
